Channing is beautiful. I have never heard that used as a first name. Where did you come up with that and does it have a special meaning?

i have to agree that irish names are in "style" i named my son a name (that happens to be irish) and nobody in my family cared for it, they said it sounded like an old man's name (it is an older name). but now everyone is using. two people in hollywood used it for thier kids names, now everyone is using. a friend just had a baby and when i went to see him on the web nursery. to boys were named the same as my son during the month of january (and that was just one hospital). it is true, when you think you are being unique, you never are!

Wow, I can't believe the amount of people that didn't know anybody named Shannon. I have three cousins named Shannon and 3 friends named Shannon and there are others that I know but am not friends with that are named Shannon. I thought it was a popular name.

I've also heard Janelle (she's 42) and I've heard Channing and Peyton before.

But I have noticed people putting their names together to make a name for the baby. One in my town named their baby Carlmel. Their names were Carl and Melanie. That poor little girl. I can't believe they named her that.

I love the name Channing, very pretty!

I also love:

Emma
Daniel
Cutter
Cody
Royal (family name)
Lucy
Chloe
Abby
Hope
Scarlet

I love the "old timey" sounding names and that they are making a come back! Some unusual people I know with "different" names are

Jubilee
Gamble
Rhiannon
Chadity
twins named Fawnita and Dawnita

Okay we have some pretty rare names in our family so I'll write them down.

Jilaire (girl)
Deljorah (girl)
Callahan(Boy)
Tatianna(girl)
Cullen (boy)
Jaggar (boy)
Amadie (pronounced - Am-a-dee) (boy's middle name but now girl)
Louella (girl)
Kendall (girl)
Billie (girl)
Jory (boy)
Dayton (boy)

I think that's it, I'll post more if I think of more

Oh ya and I love the name Asher but I think it's becoming popular now.

ccwasson,

I went to college in the Panhandle of Texas. There is a tiny little town up there named Channing. That is how I heard it for the first time. I always thought it was beautiful and knew in college I wanted to name a baby girl that. I'm 31 now, so I waited a while for my little princess!!

Channing means knowing
One of the meanings of Elizabeth is God's will

So, I like that her name means knowing God's will.

Thanks for letting me share about my favorite name!

I come from an Irish/Scottish family, so we have the Irish names in our famly . . .

Duncan
Desmond
Kelley
Shannon
Erin
Colin
Aiden
Maxwell
Shane
Quinn
Graham

I really like Kieran, but my sister is Karen, I didn't want my son being confused with my sister. Since I'm a single mom, and still live in the same place I grew up, people would inevitably ask if was my sisters.

I like the older names too. I have all the names picked out for the rest of the children I'd like to adopt. Sophie Anna, Olivia Danielle, Joel Nathan, and I'd like to go to China one day and get Alana Xiaolu (Sha-loo). I had a friend in highschool from China named Xiaolu and I love that name.

I love older names, too!

Alicia - I just had to say that I love all your names - they are all on my list. When I was talking through names with one of my friends that is expecting a girl, though, she told me that all my choices sounded like they were "out of The Color Purple"! LOL

A few of my favorites are:
girl:
Sophia, Lydia or Lydian, Lily, Olivia, Jessica, Victoria (Tori), Caroline (Carly), Emma, Molly, Julia or Juliana
boy:
Max, Nathaniel, Samuel (Sam), Conner, Alexander, Nicholas (Nick), George

Great names

Hello!

Wow, for us deciding on a girls name has been very tough so I'll start with the boys...

Dustin
Ethan
Evan
Jacob
Justin
Matthew

Middle names: James, Ryan, William

My favorite boys name is Dylan Lane, it looked liked I'd never be able to use the name myself, so when my sister was in need of names, I gave it up to my nephew - I guess you could say I named him!

Ok, girls names...

Alyssa
Ashley
Brianna
Heather
Janelle or Jenelle
Jenna
Jocelle
Madison or Madisyn
Molly or Mollie
Rebecca
Shelby
Trina
Trisha

Middle names: Rose, Ann, Jean, Marie, Lynn

I really love Jenna, but DH and my mom do not - UGH! We're leaning towards Molly ( wished for child ), or Jocelle ( joyous ), still not sure. For boys, we're leaning towards Matthew ( gift from God ), Dustin ( valiant fighter or brown rock quarry ), Ethan ( strong, firm )

Since we're more agreeable on a boys name, the baby will probably be a girl, I keep telling DH if we can't agree, we'll let the birthmom choose from the list.
