I'm a twin. My suggestion is that twins not be named alike at all! One of my soapboxes . . .

Nancy -
When our boys were about 4 months old (they are 9 months now) my mother told me she had initially been dissappointed I named them so differently, but even then their distinct personalities showed through and she had decided that the different names were a good thing and would help them keep their individuality. I big step for her - afterall - I'm not a twin, but my brother and I were asked ALL the time if we were, close in age - and his name is Michael, it drove me nuts! Michelle ![]() |

Here's a little tidbit that may be helpful if you do choose similar names. My girls Cambodian names were very similar and when we applied for their social security numbers, they kept assigning them the same number. The reason for that is because the computer reads the first few letters in the name only and because they had the same birthdate, it assumed they were the same person (or some similar malfunction with the system). If you do choose similar first names, when you apply for their ss numbers be sire to tell the person processing your applications that there is a special handling process for twins with similar first names. The first three employees that handled my case did not know this. I would probably still be fighting if it had not been for one well-informed ss employee that did happen to know this!
I had a conversation recently with an adult twin who had a similar problem with a driver's license. If I remember correctly her name was Danielle and her twin brother was Daniel.

Help!
Having twin boys (due in August) and looking for middle names We are set on the first names of Aidan and Pierce, but need middle names. My husband's name is Joseph and would like to possibly incorporate that. Also, we are an Irish family and would like to possibly have Irish middle names (while I realize that Pierce is not Irish, but I love the name so much!!). Our last name is O'Leary. Any help would be great. Thank you! -Kerri

I always liked the name Aidan Gabriel. That was the backup name for our son. We named him Logan Alexander though. Good luck finding names you like. It is always such a hard process to choose names that the child will have to live with forever. But I love both Pierce and Aidan.
