Online Autism support groups?
I met a woman today who has an 8 year old bio daughter who is autistic. She lives in my community and I got talking to her at the grocery store. We ended up talking for quite a while, she is obviously overwhelmed a great deal from raising her daughter (and also dealing with some pretty bad financial problems). Poor soul started crying right there - I felt her pain. I'm raising two children who we adopted last year who have FASD.
She feels totally alone. I know I would if I didn't have this site to vent from time to time. Anyone know of any online autism support groups? I thought I would pass along the information to her and pray that it is something that will help her. Thanks! |

We also adopted a child with autism and are in the process of adopting our second with autism! Some days it gets crazy. I also like autismweb.com and autism-pdd.net.

I just found wrongplanet.net. It's mostly for people with autism spectrum disorders esp. Asperger's, but there is a forum for parents as well.

There is also a great book called "Let Me Hear Your Voice". Since our placement I have read many books on autism and so far this one was the easiest and most informative. It is basically the story of a mom whos daughter was diagnosed at a young age and what they did to overcome it.
In the book you get a lot of the dark history on autism and also read a lot about what many parents go through when they first find out the dx. |
