Adopting an adult in NZ
My husband and I are looking into adopting his biological 19 year old son. He was previously adopted by another family and taken to live in Australia by them. He has since been left to his own devices since 16 and is wanting us to adopt him. While most other countries enable you to adopt an adult NZ is not one of them. We are trying to find any way at all to do this - are there loopholes where we could do it in another country and come back to NZ. Any help or support would be apreciated, It should come down to his decision because he is capable of deciding himself now. Thanks

I don't know about an official adoption but do know the young man can change his name by deed-poll and officially become who he wants.
As an aside..... have you told him it's not the name on the Deed or Certificate that is important. It's about knowing without a doubt that you are loved and belong. Regards Ann
