HI, I am looking for my brother. He was born in NZ in 1968? All I know at this stage is his name is Richard and he was given up for adoption by my parents. Yes we have the same parents. I don't know if this is common, but our parents later married and had two more children. We are very keen to make contact. I now have a family of my own and would dearly love to introduce them to 'my only brother'. Any leads would be dearly appreciated.
Thankyou. |

I'm not sure whether you, as a sibling, are entitled to the information but I know for sure your parents can get whatever information is available (adopted name and name of adoptive parents, address at time of adoption etc) if they approach
Adult Adoption Information Officer Private Bag 6901 Marion Square Wellington New Zealand Also, your local Family Court or CYFS office will be able to held. Good luck with your search (if your parents are willing )- I wish you all the best Ann

You are fortunate to be searching in NZ - the process here is very fair and searches are conducted very promptly. As long as no veto has been placed on contact by your brother, searches are conducted in a timely manner. As Ann has mentioned you would be wise to contact the Adoption Unit and make enquiries as to whether you can search as a full sibling - I am unsure of the protocol. If I recall correctly there is no phone number listed in the white pages but I believe there is a fax number - perhaps just look it up on the internet - www.whitepages.co.nz Good luck and hope all goes well.....BTW, I was really pleased to find I had a sister and two brothers and that I was related to them 100% - its a good feeling!!

Ok - back again.....it seems since I last looked for the contact details the Adoption Unit has introduced a toll free contact number...
The number is 0508 32459. Its a toll free number here in NZ - are you in NZ yourself? I am sure the person that answers your call will be able to advise you on where to go and what needs to be done.
