Can Any child Psychologist Assess for RAD

Hi,

I have been through the ups and down with my two adoptive children. I highly suspect that they have RAD. One may be more severe than the other but they definately have it. My son will be seeing a psychologist on 9/2 and i definately want to get him assesed for RAD. The plan is to definately get him diagnosed( he has severe problems) and then work on the other.

My question is Can any psychologist test for RAD or does it have to be a Attachement therapist? Thanks

A psychologist can diagnose it an attachment therapist can help you deal with it.

RAD is somewhat new and the boundaries on it are not well defined. Different psychologists are likely to have different amounts of knowledge on it and different criteria on what they need to see to diagnose it.

And please keep in mind that some things might LOOK like RAD but really be other attachment issues... same family of problem, but a lot less scary sounding when you're doing research!! My son was diagnosed with RAD as a toddler. He's a pretty happy, cool, smart little boy right now. Cuter than Opie, too. Hang in there!!
