10-12 month broken bond
We have a foster baby that we have had from 4 weeks old. I was becoming concerned early on about her not bonding and then all of a sudden she started being very clingy, I was thrilled. She seems very well adjusted at this point and even ahead in a lot of areas in spite of her rough start in this life. We are hoping to be able to adopt her this summer but right now the paternal grandparents are fighting for her. It will come down to the judges decision this May, she will be 10-12 months by then. I realize there will be a transition time but I am very concerned about her having to adjust to another mom in a short time.
Is there any studies out there about attachment problems after such a situation? |

I don't know of any studies that address your particular situation, but there is a wonderful book by Robert Karen, Becoming Attached, that sums up attachment studies from the last 70 years. The studies were done on bio kids. It shows just how profound the result could be from what many adults might consider a minor separation--like 2 year olds who were hospitalized for a week. It's a fascinating--and eye opening--read. |
