out of the mouths of babes

my 3.5 y/o is getting the gest of talking to people nicely if only he would take his own advice more often.

last night i was watching the very sad ball game. i semi-yelled, "oh, cardinals!", my son came over to me, touched my face softley and said "mom, you should not yell, just say, i don't like the cardinals, just use your nice voice" it was all i could do not to laugh. it was too cute!

So much better than what happened to me--DH told me a story and I said "Shoot" only, I didn't say "shoot," I said the word that you're not supposed to say. Which is what my almost 3 year old did too. And then, because she's a clever girl and knows a curse when she hears it, she came up with two more (strung together rather creatively)! We're going to have to be much more careful with our own potty mouths. I'm properly mortified.

Isn't it embarrassing when our kids catch us and worse, reflect us? Not so long ago I was in the store w/ 4-y.o. dd in cart, and she said something that sounded like "crap." I didn't see how it could be, so I didn't pay attention, but then I heard it again. So I said, what did you say? And in a loud, clearly enunciated voice she said "I said, CRAP!" I nearly died on the spot. I know exactly where it came from and called my husband on it the instant I saw him (he had a worse mouth than me and is having a harder time stopping it!). He felt horrible and has been trying harder, but still...
