Mother's Birth Family

I am interested in finding my Mother's Birth family. She was born Dec 9, 1934 in Mountain Home,AK to Ida & John Smith. She was adopted by Eldridge & NoraMay Webb of Little Rock, AR. We found this info after she passed away Dec 16, 2003. I am not sure why, but I would like to know about her birth family

Did you mean AK or AR in posting

Hi I'm phylliss and I saw your post and wondered if you were talking about Alaska or Arkansas. Mountain Home, AR has a population of over 11,000 people and it should be fairly easy to trace your folks. I would call for telephone numbers for any person with the last name, the local post office and ask if there are any life long residents in town or older people that you might could contact that might have the information that you need. Sometime people at the library in the town might be able to help by checking city directories or may know the people personally. It is a long shot but sometimes worth the time.

I found a John Q. Smith, dob 8-25-17 who died in Mountain Home, Arkansas on April 12, 1989.

Because of the common nature of the name, I'm not certain that is who we are looking for. I'll continue to look more, but have a family vacation this week, so it may be next week before I get back with you. Do you know the age of your mother's birth parents? Might I also ask your race as it would help when I go through the 1930 census?

By the way, in my search, I came upon your mother's obituary. It was beautiful and she sounded like a wonderful woman.

Joan Webb Miller

My Mother's birth father was John Z. Smith. I found this on her adoption papers. I do not know her birth mothers maiden name. She did have borthers and sisters because I can remember as a child her brother being stationed at Millington Naval Air Station outside of Memphis for a short time in the 60's. I am not sure whether she liked this or not I just remember him not showing up anymore. I am caucasian so this may narrow some fields. I also don't know if the family remained around Mountain Home after the adoption.
