I recently started a fost-adopt class and I just had a visit with my physician so she could fill out my paperwork. I am wondering if they are going to turn me down as a foster or adoptive parent because I am on an antidepressant. My Doctor wasn't sure. Now I'm worried. I live in Arizona.

If your M.D feels you are fitt for parenting that is all that matters, but they will ask you why you are taking meds for depression. Good luck

Antidepressants are not usually a problem. In fact, it is seen as a good thing that you can identify that you have a problem, get yourself to the proper people to identify it, and that you cooperate with treatment. You would be expected to do the same with a foster child, so having personal experience can be seen as a good thing.
You may be asked about your medication and therapy compliance, about the reason for the depression, how you deal with other depressing events, etc. But in the end if that's all you're dealing with it shouldn't stand in the way of getting approved. |

Thank You!
Thank you so much for the feedback. I feel much better about things now. It seems like a waste to go through 10 weeks of classes only to be turned down at the end due to antidepressants. Thanks again.
