Wonderful mom :-)
Kangasue, I am sure you will be a wonderful mom! Mothering doesn't come with instructions, and from what you wrote, you have been around kids and have been in mothering situations. You'll be just fine

Have been reading all the posts, and find it really too bad that non-working persons can not foster.
I have wished to foster all my life. I have a dau who just moved out and a son 14. I have always been a single mom, so have plenty experience taking care of young ones on my own. Unfortunately, I am not working..cant find a job. I live in Queen Creek, have a 5 bedroom house with only my son & I living here. I thought it would be beneficial to some needful children to live here, where I have plenty of time on my hands for them, and plenty of room for them and plenty of heart for them. too bad the govey ruins it for some.. pammi |

Fostering
What agencies have you checked with? I am with Arise, and I'm not aware of any restrictions regarding employment. All they said was you had to be able to take care of the children without counting on the monthly subsidy as your primary income.

Same here. I have recently finished our PRIDE classes and I know of a few fostering families who still intend on working. They will be primarily fostering to older children. I don;t understand why you would not qualify.

Welcome Blanca!
If you are interested in fostering, which might lead to adoption, you should consider attending an orientation first. It's about a 2 hour seminar that introduces you to the system, and what the expectations are. I am personaly going through AASK, located in Phoenix. (Not too sure what part of AZ you are from.) There # is 602-254-2275 The web site is also helpful. http://www.aask-az.org/index.htm Good luck to you ![]()

Update
Haven't been here in awhile and thought I'd update. Our daughter's adoption was final a couple of weeks ago and we are now looking for an older sister for her (age 11-13). Arise has really gone downhill lately, and we are considering switching to AASK. We will make our decision next week. Our attorney recommended two agencies, and AASK was one of them. Susan

Waiting
Did you put a lot of restrictions on the age/sex/problems you would accept? Is your goal adoption, so maybe they are only going to give you a child/ren who are less likely to go home? Do you touch base with your licensing worker frequently? We got our first foster children within days of being licensed.

Agency
We were with Arise, which was really good at the time. We are in the process of switching to AASK. We are in east Mesa. If your goal is just foster, I'm surprised you don't have any kids yet--there's such a demand. We were in contact with our licensing worker on a regular basis.

Hi I am from the West side of Phoenix. I am not a foster mom yet. I will have to wait until I am employed again to restart but I am lookig so forward to it.
How have all of you liked the process? Being a Foster parent? Any of you single parents? Can anyone tell me more about what they are looking for in the homestudy? |
