Smile arizona

I live in arizona and trying to get certified in Foster care. Unfortantely I was laid off just before I had the home inspection done. I was finished with everything else. But I was was no longer qualified for foster care.
I am not working but since I was having trouble finding a job I took my pension plan out and going to school. I have enough to live off with out the foster care money, since I know that is nothing. I just have to call and and see if that will be ok.
I would like to be part of any group started.
Does anyone know about this law that just passed about DES? What does that mean?

Is there any foster parent clubs or associations in Arizona? Is there any picnics or anything for the parents and children?

did you all get the news? We are finally getting a raise for foster care. $3.75 will be added to the base rate beginning Jan.04.

new to foster parent process

My name is Erica and my husband (Ken) and I are just beginning the process to become licensed foster parents. I have so many questions, hopefully most of them will be answered when we go to our meeting.
Any advice up front would be great though! Thanks so much! Erica

Question Has anyone gone throughCatholic Social Services?

I've tried to send an e-mail to the support group at Arizona_Adoptions@yahoo.com, my e-mails never get through always bounce back. Has anyone else had any problems with this address?

Also has anyone had any experience with Catholic Social Services or St Nicholas of Myra Adoption Center in Tucson for an adotion? If so, can you tell me a little bit about your experience? Thanks for your input.

Talking I'm in Glendale

Hi - I'm so excited to find this part of the site! I've been in one other part for several months and hadn't really poked around. I went through Arise and love it. I began the process (by making the decision) on June 21st...my 35th birthday. I was officially licensed on December 22nd, called on the 23rd and had 2 kids on the 24th. I'm down to one 17 month old and will stay at one for awhile. I'm single and adjusting to single-parenting will take some time. Don't get me wrong; I'm loving it...just needing to take one day at a time. Would love to get some real support going here!

Chellers, there isn't much action on this thread but if you go to Yahoo groups and put in desertfostermoms in search or arizona_adoptions you will find two very active support groups. Hope to see you there. Hugs

I think the problem is that the address is Arizona_Adoptions @yahoo, I think its just you forgot the space underline thing. I just did an adoption in Nov. through St. Nicks in Tucson. I had no problems, my worker was wonderful, I adopted a child that I had been fostering for almost a year, so I didn't go through St.Nicks just to adopt. you can email me if you have any other questions. Hi!

Licensed to foster and adopt (our goal is adoption) in September 2003. Have two grown sons, and we're ready to start the adventure again! We're hoping for girls, but boys would be fine, too (we have experience!). We're licensed for 0-11, four kids, but if we could pick, we'd go for ages 3-7, one or two kids. We' live in Mesa. We had three foster kids, but they've been moved to long-term foster homes and will be going home eventually. We've had one red file staffing, but weren't picked. Any advice on how we can get our forever kids faster? Susan

Smile Arizona adoptions

Hi, we are an older adoptive couple. We are missionaries to the
Indian peoples of the world. We have just moved into the AZ
area and are checking out the options. Any information would
be helpful. Thanks and good luck to everyone on their adoption
journey. It can be precarious but it is so rewarding. ADD

Smile New to foster/adoption process

Hi! I've just read the posts on this board and I am so relieved to have people in my area (I live in Gilbert) sharing their foster/adoptive experiences. My husband and I are going to be starting our initial classes in a couple of weeks and can't be more excited. We've wanted to adopt for so many years now that I can't believe that our time has finally come near. We want desperately to have more children (we have 2 girls out of 7 pregnancies), and adoption was an easy answer for us. I would love to speak to anyone who can talk me through their foster/adoptive experience(s), and who can give me insight as to how the process works before and after becoming certified. International vs. domestic adoptions..... Things to watch for, etc.
Thank you so much for your input! You're a great group!

Next Step

We went through Arise (in Mesa) and all told it took us about six months to get licensed, and another six months to b chosen for a child for adoption (9 year old girl). There are several agencies in the area, but from being on my other adoption groups, Arise is one of the better ones. The cost was zero. Hope this helps! Susan
