Arrow Alabama Searching Resources

I think I have read all the posts on this board pertaining to searching for birthfamily. I have seen postings that tell how to obtain your obc (original birth certificate), which I was the first one in Calhoun County to apply for mine because I think I learned about it before it went into effect from someone from AIML. I have not seen this information which I think will be real helpful in helping adoptees in Alabama find their birth family. About 10 years ago or so, someone at the probate court in Calhoun county told me who to write to in order to help me find about my birth family. I contacted the Department of Human Resources in Montgomery.
The web site for DHR is ...Going to DHR Home Page
The link that tells what to do to get information is Adoption FAQs
Here is what it tells on that page of what to do:
How can adult adoptees get information on their adoption?

A written request must be submitted to the Office of Adoption. The adoptee's birth name (if known), birth date and adoptive parents' names need to be included in the written request. Requests received from adoptees placed by another agency will be forwarded to that agency.

Adoptees can receive non-identifying information-circumstances of their birth family that led to the adoption, history of foster care placement, social and medical history of the birth family. Identifying information-names of birth family members and addresses-cannot be released in accordance with the Adoption Code without a court order.

The address to write to is:
State of Alabama Department of Human Resources
Office of Adoption
P.O. Box 304000
Montgomery, AL 36130-4000

Their number is 334-242-1310

I hope DHR still does this and if so, I hope this information helps someone find their family. DHR helped me find some of my birth family. If you would like to hear my story, let me know. Roger
