I'm single. I've been waiting to adopt from foster care for nearly two years. Finally over the holidays, when I was out of state visiting family, I got a call on my cell phone from a social worker asking if I'd be interested in a 7-month-old. This is a foster-to-adopt placement, so the goal is for this to be a permanent placement. For the first time in my life, I couldn't wait for the holidays to end so I could get on a plane and pursue this child. Apparently my home study impressed the social worker, because she offered me the child straight out, skipping interviews with other prospective applicants. My daughter will visit weekends until the end of the month, when she will stay for good. They wanted to transition slowly because she's bonded with her foster monther. I am overjoyed! She was born to a cocaine addict so there may be some issues down the line, but for now she appears healthy and developmentally on target. And she's just beautiful! I burst into tears at the sight of her! I'm so happy!!! ...although anxious about single motherhood. Money will be tight, and I can forget about dating for a while, but I'll be happy and I'll do my very best to make sure she is, too.

I remember so well the first time I saw my little ones. As a single mom, I can tell you that money will often be tight. Finding the right childcare can also be a problem. Having said that, the joys of mommyhood are overwelming. Just hearing my girls tell me they love me melts me into a pool of butter.
