Hello. Has anyone ever done a state adoption for an infant that can give me more information about the process? Are babies hard to come by in the state system?

My husband and I are planning on adopting through the state. The lady I talked to sounded positive and had nothing negative to say. Maybe that was because we are looking to adopt a bi-racial newborn/infant. We are also open to minimum to mild special needs. Do you think that might make a difference?

and it is harder to adopt children under 5. We didn't use DSF for our adoptions, we went thru a private agency that worked on placing AA children. They mainly like to focus on older children in the system, but still work with parents that are looking for any age child. We wanted a child under 5, preferably under 3, this would be our first child. They did tell us it would probably take longer.
Well, about 3 months later we were chosen for a 3yr old boy. Our homestudy wasn't even written up yet, they had to rush it thru. His was straight adoption, parents had already been TPR'd. A year later, practically to the day, we were chosen for an 19month old little boy. This is a foster/adopt situation, his parents rights haven't been TPR'd as of yet, but I believe they have a court date in January to start this procedure. Anyway, it depends on what age you are really looking for. If you want an infant under 1yrs old, then I believe you would have to do foster/adopt, and they would try and place only babies that they believe will not be reunified with their bfamilies, but its never a sure thing. Even with our last son, they could give his bmom another chance, and we could lose him. Their is always a chance going with foster/adopt. |

We are planning to do foster/adopt with the state. We are starting the process in January and I have prepared myself that if the courts decide to give the birthmom another chance, then it was meant by God to have that child with us during that time, but not forever. Of course I know that it would be really hard to go through that but I believe that if that happens God will give me the strength to endure the pain that I will feel. My only concern would not be for my husband or myself, but for my son. He may not understand it and it might be hard to explain it to him. So I am putting my trust in God that all will work out right.
