Homestudy Issues!

Can someone tell me your experience with your homestudy. We sent our paperwork in over a month ago and have heard nothing. I called and they say they are waiting for the background checks to come in. I have spoken with the Director and she says that my social worker should be calling to schedule an interview. Well I talk to my social worker and she says she is waiting on the background checks. I feel like I am going in circles with them. Am I just being impatient and anxious?

Are you talking about background checks through INS? From your fingerprinting? That should not hold up the homestudy. If you are talking about your criminal records background check, then that only takes a few minutes at your county courthouse, and so you could have that done and mail it to your SW within one day.

Are you getting a homestudy done in order to become a foster parent? I don't know anything about that situation, but I still don't see why that would hold up a SW from doing his/her interviews and getting your biographies together, etc.

We are currently doing our homestudy and have our INS paperwork going through at the same time. NOTHING is being held up because of INS. I have my individual interview with the SW this Thursday, and then she'll take about a week or two to finish writing our homestudy. Our adoption from Guatemala will start being processed at the first of the year...without our fingerprinting being completed, and then when that is done, it will be sent down and our case will progress on into the final stages.

Good luck with your situation. I can't think of a reason why you are being put off, unless they are just busy.

Inour stat, the background checks take six to eight weeks. Our neighboring state takes up to 3 months. Its frustrating, but it is reasonable for the time frame. Some workers will do the rest of the paperwork ahead of time, but some won't.

thanks

No its just that the director keeps telling me to talk with the social worker for my interview and the social worker is tell me to wait for the background checks to come in. The director supposedly gave her the 'ok' to go ahead with the interview. Thats why I am confused as to whats going on. Thanks everyone for your replies.

Maybe you should conference

Maybe you should contact the director and request a conference call between the three of you and get it all straightened out.... So your're all on the same page

Just a suggestion. I work for burecrats so I know how slowly the wheel's turn. Just wait until you have to start waiting for a child! This part will seem like it flew.

Homestudy

Hi Shay we just completed our homestudy about 2 weeks ago. We submitted our fingerprinting back in September and have been told that our background check is not back yet. We were told in the begginning by our SW that the background checks takes a long time. However, our agency has submitted our homestudy for approval. This process varies from agency to agency but your SW should be to explain to you what their policies are. My SW told me in the intial interview that we could continue the homestudy process because it could take up to 3months for the background check to come back. You really need to request a meeting with your SW.
