Ebay, Ebay, Ebay.
I have found a wide variety of kids' stuff there: games (African American bingo), art, dolls from the 70s, a Little Bill doll that talks, GI Joes, a Cowboy Bill boy doll, books, - and even some unique art from Africa itself. I will say that the secret is out, however, as the competition for these items has gotten higher and higher over the years that I've been watching/searching for them. I just wish I could find more stuff for boys - there are a lot of dolls and Barbies, but it's harder to find "boy" items. Sandy

My best friend bought dd the cutest twin dolls by Fisher Price from their Little Mommy nursery collection. She still carries them everywhere... and the best part is they wash well!
I also love the cloth dolls by Pottery Barn.

They had a Cabbage Patch doll in the toy outlet too, but personally I've always thought they're a bit freaky looking.
They also had some of those baby Bratz dolls, but honestly they're just bizarre, and the outfits they have on them look hideous or are too hooker-ish for my taste. Guess I'm more old fashioned than I realized. Lord, I'm my mother............................. Sandy PS - Joskids, I tried to PM you a list of online stores that sell AA toys, products, holiday stuff, etc. but your PM box is full.

Customized doll?
I thought I saw on this site a link for a company that makes customized baby dolls. Is this ringing a bell with anyone? You send them a picture and they will make a doll in the picture's likeness.
I was sure I bookmarked the site, but apparently I did not... ugh!

That is a good site.
The likeness site is more than likely My Twinn My Twinn: Personalized Gifts Including Twin Collectible Dolls I was wondering how well the results are for Black kids. Let me know how the doll looks. |

I'm thinking about doing the My Twinn for my DD. They recommend that your child be between 3 and 12 for the best results. They have a couple of AA examples on the website and they are pretty good. I've been meaning to call them to ask a few questions. I thought this would be a great Christmas gift.
You can also do a toddler doll but there are not many choices on the facial shape with those. You have to pay an extra fee to get them to match the features to the facial molds. Fe2002 If I get one I'll let you know. I need to find a decent picture of DD first. The hairstyle thing is stressing me out. DD's hair texture looks different depending on whether it's braided or loose. |
