Newbie AA Couple Intro

Hello all,

My husband(29)and I(28) are going to Foster/Adoption Orientation tonight and I'm super excited. I have 2 bio daughters (9 and 2 months... yes 2 months!) and a stepdaughter (10). This step brings us closer to adding a boy to our home!

Welcome!

We've adopted once from the foster care system through the foster to adopt program and once through a private agency. We are also licensed foster parents and are fostering a baby boy who is 6 months old. The kids are awesome.

Adopting from the foster care system is hard but so worth it. There is a great need for families looking for AA boys.

Thank you all for warm welcome. Orientation was informative and confirmed that this is something we want to do. A few of the others there changed their minds and walked out and some seemed like they'd rather be somewhere else, which was weird to me. We begin classes in October and should complete them in November. Yay! I can't wait to adopt!

I have just scheduled my first meeting at our local Children & Youth Services office to discuss the foster-to-adopt process. I am excited and nervous. I have been doing research and I have heard a lot of horror stories. Am I letting my family in for an emotional roller coaster? We adopted our first son through a private agency and it was hard (especially for my husband) to go through legal finalization waiting period. I have to have faith.

Quick UPDATE: We completed classes on Tuesday and have been assigned a worker. We are waiting for mail on how to start the paper and homestudy!

I'm really praying everything will go smoothly and we'll have a placement in early 2008.

Hello!

Hi, I am ChooChoo. Dh and I are new to the adoption journey. We have come to this journey after 4 years of ART. We have had 4 failed IVF cycles and have decided to move on. We came to the realization that we wanted to be parents first. It doesn't matter if it is through pregnancy. I am looking forward to chatting with you all.

We are in Chicago, and working with Bethany Christian Services. Our preliminary application has been approved and now we are working on our formal application. I am a teacher and Dh is a social worker.

How has your family and friends responded to your decision to adopt? I have found our family was very interested while we were going through the adoption process with our first son and they are more quiet this time around. We are still in the early stages of the homestudy and have yet to begin our parenting classes. Gook luck with Bethany.

Hi, thanks for your response. Our family is very excited. Each time we talk to them, they are asking how things are going. I didn't realize the extent of the paper work with the formal application. So, we are doing pieces at a time. How long of a wait did you have until you received your first baby?
