Good adoption books for African American children???
Wondering if there are any really good books for adopting African American children. We are starting the adoption process and we are looking for either a bi-racial or AA infant. Please recommend what you guys have selected and enjoyed. Thanks!

Shifty, congrats. DH and I are cauc and have an biracial DD (AA/cauc). I haven't found a book for kids specifically about adopting an AA/biracial kid. I do, however really love 2 books that focus on how families may not look alike but are still familes (btw, I don't know if you are AA or biracial yourself, so if so I apologize):
A Mom For Choco and A Blessing From Above. There is a great book called Brown Like Me (although it is not focused on adoption, the "narrator" is an AA girl adopted by a cauc family). I also love, "The Colors of Us" written by Karen Katz who is the a mom of a DD from Guatamala. GOOD LUCK!!! |

Thank you so much that helps a lot! My DH and I care cauc. Thank you so much for your help.
We just filled out the application and paid the fee. We are so excited and want it to go fast. How soon after your application did he/she come home? |

Shifty, our HS was completed in Dec. 04 and our dd was born at the end of May 05. We "started" the process in Oct 04 and it took about 2 months to get our HS completed. Depending on who you are working with, though, it could (hopefully) happen a lot faster!!
Good luck to you!! |

Like A Mother for Choco. The Little Green Goose and Little Miss Sppider work well for inter-racial adoptions. They both send the message that your 'real' parent is the one who nutures you and cares for you, even if they look very different than you.
