Anyone use this?

I was wondering if anyone had tried the Nexxus leave in conditioner/headress? I just picked some up for Drihan and I am looking for feedback since I am desperately seeking a leave in conditioner. I just picked up the Creme of Nature shampoo the other day and found it easy to comb through when I bathed her this morning.

nope, sorry, but I love nexxus products for my own hair (back when I had some, lol) and for dd's hair.

we're not big on the leave in conditioners sold on the shelf next to shampoos and conditioners. we tend more toward the products used after shampooing, oils and the like.

I have tried olive oil, apricot oil and avocado oil and her hair keeps getting drier it seems. I am so afraid it will get dry and break. A lot of people suggested a leave in conditioner.

I told you about the Creme of Nature shampoo TraceyK.

Go to Carols Daughter's website and check out the healthy hair butter. I think you will like their products cuz its natural and vegan.

Drihan's hair is thick, she needs a creamy oil like healthy hair butter for her hair. Experiment see which works best...Healthy Hair butter or hair milk both made by Carols Daughter.

A leave-in conditioner won't keep her hair moisturized. She needs oils and creams in her hair to protect it from breakage cuz her hair is maturing and is not going to remain baby hair anymore.

yeah, I'd say check out the carols daughter's products. you can buy them on the web or you can check out the store locations and see if a store near you carries what you want (call first).

they have small samples of 2oz and 4oz things so you don't have to spend too much. I'd suggest the hair milk and the healthy hair butter. I agree with adrienne, drihan needs oils in her hair. these are both rather light products (for aa hair products, lol) and they'll add what she needs.

Also try a couple of braids, which will prevent some breakage (looks like she has enough hair for 2 or 4 braids). the afro daily is hard because you're probably combing with a comb that doesn't have wide enough teeth, and that will lead to breakage. Back in the day you used a cake cutter to fluff your 'fro.

if you need a detangler, try a mix of oil and water in a spray bottle, maybe 2 or 3 parts water for 1 part oil (jojoba or something). that will give a sheen but also make things a tad easier to comb.

i agree start putting her hair in small ponies or braids. i would recommend an oil/butter not a leave in conditioner.

i like pink oil moisturizers to aid with comb through and I liked the just for me hair oil.

I looked at some of them at Walmart and they have mineral oil which from what I heard is bad, is that correct?

She definately will not allow braids. She screams and crawls away. I do put poms in though. I put two on top and two down in the back.

The comb I use is a wide tooth comb I got at the store.

I forgot to ask, do you leave the butters in or rinse out? It is hard because her hair may not be as dry as I think, but I have nothing to compare it to but my long straight, blond hair

Tracey you leave products like Carols Healthy Hair Butter or Hair Milk in her hair. You put it in the scalp and hair and rub it in and brush with a wide bristle brush. It will soften her hair, especially if you put it in her hair while its wet.

I recommend that you get some books on hair care for AA children because for AA girls hair that is done well becomes a self esteem issue.

Ladies, I would like to butt in here. I have never seen hair like my son's. It is very, very dry. I have tried several products on it, but nothing seems to work. Now I am using pink oil moisturizer and a detangler, but that only works for about 30minutes. He is only 6months so I can't cut his hair, what should I do?

I own It's All Good Hair. I do always get compliments from AA women on her hair, but I think I am so concerned because I want her hair to stay healthy. I usually do her hair in one of these styles.

Kizzys hair pomade and Healthy Hair butter by Carol's Daughter is what I strongly recommend. Go to her website at carols daughter dot com no spaces.

lovingbeingamom- Finding the right hair products is always trial and error. Once you find something that works for you stick to it until it stops working (which it will ) YOu want to find a good moisturizer to penetrate the hair. From my experience pink oil moistorizer has alchol in it which sort of dries the hair out. Someone suggested Kizzie by Carol's daughter. That is sort of a pomade and it will help your son's hair sort of lay flat, it works almost sort of like a heavy gel and it smells really good. CD's healthy hair butter and hair milk both work as great moistorizers and smell equally as yummy. They are all natural products.
If you would like to try something in the store. Just for Me Creme hairdress is pretty good. This was one of the best in store products that I found for my son, but it is not all natural. It worked pretty well until his hair started to change.

Wow, that is a lot of hair!

TraceyK, those were the same hairstyles that I put my girls' hair in when they were that age--thanks for the happy memories!

I haven't tried the Carol's products, or the Nexxus, but we use Pantene Curl Defining Conditioner as a leave-in conditioner, and it works well for my girls. We rub/comb it through while the hair is still wet and just kind of wring it out to remove the excess. It makes combing easy and keeps their hair from looking too dry. If they are wearing fros, that is all we do. If I am doing ponies, twists or braids, we put on some non-mineral hair oil, too, ( we use Hot Six oil) so that the hair is smoother and shinier looking.

Once chlorine season is upon us and their hair gets even dryer, I try to use Burt's Bees Avocado Butter (I think that is what it is called, comes in a tube like toothpaste and looks like really thick greenish vaseline) as a super deep conditioning once a week or so, at a time when they won't mind being in the shower cap for a couple of hours.

Breakage is pretty much only a problem for my oldest, who doesn't like for her hair to "look wet" and so resists the hot six oil, and who is old enough to do her own hair, and therefore doesn't comb as gently as I would.

Enjoy the control while you have it

I just got some Carol's Daughter products and I love them. I find that with these and other products, though, that I probably use more than the recommended amount. I got the smoothie, milk and butter, and one of the oils. I use the smoothie when she bathes since that needs to get rinsed out, but I use all three of the others twice daily. Makena's hair is also really, really dry, and this stuff is the best I've tried yet.

Also, for squirmy girls who won't let their hair be done, sit them in a highchair or booster seat with straps and do their hair in front of a video or tv show. Makena is happy to watch a 30-minute Baby Einstein or Dora video and by the end her hair is done. She's very good at sitting still but for the more elaborate hair styles I keep her entertained while I work. She'll also "read" books while I do her hair and that works well, too.

So try the Carol's Daughter products - another vote here!
