He was born :)

Baby Jonathan Lansing was born on his due date of December 6, 2005 after an intense birth (and I mean intense! she was 3cm when i met her at the hospital and went to 8cm in thirty minutes!) And he has the same last name as my husband and myself, at the insistence of the pbirth mom.

7lbs 3.5 ounces and 20 inches long and cute as can be!

Both of his grandmothers were present for the birth, along with his pbmom's best friend, and myself. I was surprised when after he popped out, everyone in the room shouted "Adrienne, you have to cut the cord!" (I wasn't expecting to be asked to!) And cut the cord I did.

He grew 1 inch hours after his birth and at 3 days of age he now is 7 and a half pounds and already turns his head to look around the room when I am burping him. He looks me in my face studying my face and calms down when he hears my voice when he is crying.

The nurses have been wonderful in teaching me how to care for him, and I have been doing his feedings and diaper changes in the nursery as often as possible, and caring for his pbmom in her hospital room. She was released yesterday after her high blood pressure went down. Baby Jonathan is still in the nursery having phototherapy due to his bilirubin.

The nurses taught me how to feed and burp him, and this particular nurse's aide name Shawanda (bless her heart!) taught me an excellent way to hold him to feed and burp him, because Jonathan tends to fall asleep as soon as he is in my arm or in his blanket. So I unwrap him, support his shoulders and chin with my hand and have him sitting in my lap to burp him, and then feedings are done with my supporting his head, neck and shoulders and feeding him sitting up on my lap. He is a vigorous feeder as long as he's not in my arms, otherwise he falls asleep mid-feed. LOL

I am just thrilled and my husband is on his way to town to see him in 6 days. Everything is progressing very well in getting the ICPC. The pbmom held him after his birth and I took photos as this is what she asked for before his birth, and I was happy to do that.

She went into labor the day after she had 2 helpings of my mother's potato salad.

I will keep you guys updated on how things have been. If I can figure out how to post a photo, I'll post Jonathan's photo here. He looks a lot like his first cousin who is my second cousin, but he also looks like himself, wonderfully made!

Such a great event for me to read about today. I could just see you taking care of everyone and loving every minute.

I hope things progress smoothly and your husband is at your side and holding that baby soon. I hope the birthmother is doing well too.....

What a lovely December for you....... ((HUGS))

Most Sincerely,

Linny

Thanks everyone.

The birthmother is doing very well. She and I spent a lot of time together. I stayed in her room and had a bracelet that gave me 24 hour access. She was happy to have me there. The nurses barely had to do anything because I helped care for her while she was in the hospital. I have photos of her holding Jonathan and checking him to be sure he's okay.

She and I bonded in our time in the hospital together, watching movies on my laptop and I do food-runs for her since she didn't like the hospital food. Her teacher brought her missed classwork and homework assignments to her mother's house, and her mother brought that to the hospital for her to do her work and be caught up in school. She said she is looking forward to school. I have 2 letters that she wrote to the baby that are just so sweet. I'm keeping it for him to read when he is old enough to read.

I have tons to say but not enough time to type it, and all in all was a very blessed event.

I am going to check on her and make sure she already has the instructions for her own care now that she is out of the hospital.

Oh yes the labor was intense! She went from 3cm to 8cm in 30 minutes, and it is no wonder she was worried I wasn't gonna make it to the hospital in time. By the time she had her epidural, she was already 8cm dilated (They had decided to put it in when she was 3cm but it happened so fast she still could have her epidural).

I was able to rub her back hard with the flat part of my fist, which she said helped her get through the contractions and just listening to my voice telling her to breathe. As her cousin I was focused on making sure she was not panicking. I am so glad I got to be there for the birth, and so glad she even wanted me there...cuz I was prepared for her anything including her saying no, or changing her mind about the adoption.

She loves the baby and I will tell this baby how much his birth mother loves him dearly and how much we bonded through this whole process.
