I really love this thread too! My oldest daughter is almost 11 yrs old and I've been doing her hair as soon as she got enough to do something with. Having said that, I'm always looking for the right product or the right way to take care of her hair. And, I have taken the advice of others who have posted here to get the book "It's All Good Hair". I have to agree it is a good book and has some cute hair styles. But, the biggest thing I took away from the book is to use good products on the hair even if it is more expensive. I got Kerri-Care from the salon for her, and it really is a great product.

caring for frizzy hair

I agree with toyjsu. At your baby's age, please don't put extensions in her hair. The extended hair is very heavy and her own hair has to be pulled too tight on her head. Have them braid her hair not too tight so it doesn't pull her scalp and possibly cause sores. This will also help prevent her hair from breaking around the edges. As it begins to friz around the edges/at the roots, use a soft brush to brush it up toward the braid, using whatever spray solution (even water would work) you choose. I suggest washing her hair once a week or two. And to avoid ring around the collar, keep her neck washed very well, and that will keep her collars cleaner whether her hair is washed or not.

I hope it's getting better for you and your girl baby.

For those of you that complemented me on my sons "done" hair -- I wanted to show off the fruits of my newest labors. THIS IS SO MUCH EASIER He has big plans to begin growing it out immediately!!!

Long Story ...

Well it was getting REALLY BIG. I mean REALLY BIG. Uncontrollably BIG. (at least a foot to 18 inches long ande in places longer when pulled 'out') SO ... I had enough ... and said lets trim it. So I trimmed the dreads to around a two - four inch length. It looked very cute, but a touch, shall we say, feminine And I made a mistake of saying ... hmm maybe this is a bit too girly. LOL Super Jock (aka my son) would have nothing of that - he wanted it OFF. LOL so out came dad's razor and VOILA!

I miss his dreads but now son #2 (whose hair is much looser in texture and wont dread in a million years,) wants to try. UGH - here we go again.

Hey Jensboys!

Some of the dreadlock process is mental. You might be surprised at how quickly your other son's hair locks just because he wants it to so much. And i've seen white people's straight hair lock, so...have fun on the journey!!!
