The laws in SL prohibit adoption. You may obtain guardianship, in the same way as an adoption from South Korea, and then adopt when the child reaches the U.S. Currently, the state department has suspended all SL adoptions due to some suspicious and/or fraudulent activity (I spoke to them yesterday) and ours is caught up with the rest of them. I have complete confidence in our agency, however, you should know that another agency which I do not know by name, tried to remove 12 children in May and were turned back by the US embassy in Senegal (this information also provided by the US state department). These adoptions are not for the faint-hearted. SL is very disorganized because of the war, and there is no estimate on the time it will take to get through the newest levels of restrictions. We started the process last October, I figure that we may have them out by the end of the year, but I am not holding my breath.
