Use of antidepressants and Ethiopia adoption?
Hello,
My husband and I are starting our adoption process and now I'm a bit worried because of my psychiatric history. I've been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, which has been treated with psychotherapy and antidepressants. I feel extremely well now and am using a very low dosage of meds. Just wondering how Ethiopia (or South Africa) feels about applicants with such conditions. I've heard that adoption from Russia might be possible even if you're on antidepressants and possibly even China would accept, but I haven't been able to find information about Africa. Anyone? Thank you in advance! |

This is more of an issue for your agency and social worker; you might need to get a letter from your doctor stating you are free of symptoms. I read a thread on this elsewhere--suffice it to say that plenty of adoptive parents with a similar situation have brought home babies from Ethiopia.
