Would love to info about Ethipoian adoption

Hi,

My husband and I are considering adopting a child/children from Ethiopia -- we have learned through some reearch that Ethiopia seems to be the most stable African country for adoption. I would love to hear from some of you that have already adopted from there, or any other African countries. We have 5 children, 3 bio daughters, and 2 African American sons that we adopted domestically.

I have contacted some agencies via email about there programs, but I have heard nothing back from them. What agenicies did you use? How long was your wait once you were matched with a child? How much did it cost? WE would love to adopt and infant and an older child -- is that possible to do at the same time? I'm just having such a difficult time getting any info -- I'd love to hear from you all. Thanks so much!!!!

Emily

I'm sending you a PM about our agency. [EDITED AGENCY DISCUSSION] Second, it is VERY possible to adopt 2 children at once even one older and one younger. Some agencies require that the 2 children be bio-siblings, others do not. If you want lots of insider info join the Yahoo group EthiopiaAdopt.

I would like to thank the two who pm'd me concerning the questions I asked. I'm still trying to figure out how to pm you back.
One more request -- could someone list the agencies using their full names -- I'm so new to the African adoption that I don't know the agencies names yet. Thanks so much!!!!

Emily

Just a reminder ...

All agency specific discussions must be done in private. Discussing agency specific timelines processes, dossier preparation time, application process time, referral times and fees fall under this guideline.

Go to the website of the U.S. State Department. ONLY the agencies listed there as being accredited by the Ethiopian government may be used. If any other agencies say they can help you, run away as fast as you can.

In addition to the 4 listed, there is another agency which has recently been added to the state dept. website:

Dove.

[Edited To Remove Agency discussion]. I did not list them because their name is not shortened to the point of not knowing who they are.

Yikes!!! I had no idea that we were in violation of forum policies! I'm sorry! I only wanted to know the names of the agencies -- I'm so new to Ethiopian adoption. I didn't know what the initials stood for. I couldn't look up the agency names with only thier initials. I'm sorry.

I didn't either and I HAVE been posting for a while! I knew I couldn't say whether I thought an agency was good or bad, but I didn't realize I couldn't say how long the process took w/our agency. Sorry!!

Would just like to know what is wrong with simply stating an agency's name as I did in the last edited post and the FACT that they are now listed on the US state department website...which is neither a positive, negative or any kind of endorsement????? I'm not trrying to be cheeky, I have no idea why my last post was edited. If one can't say something that simple what CAN you say?

Its ok Now you all know! We dont allow specific discussions of agencies (their timelines, how wonderful or horrid, their cost, their servies etc) because we cannot verify or be liable for the information given. Please feel free to share your opinions privately through our private message system though

Danielle,
I am thinking that perhaps Jen misunderstood your post. I re-read it (it was still in my inbox) and see all you did was mention an agency abbreviation (nothing about the agency). I wouldn't worry about it--I think it was mistake.

You cannot say ANYTHING specific about an agency, including whether or not they are accredited, how long they took, if they send out information fast or not, if their social workers are nice or jerks, if their fees are low or high, how they treated you on your trips etc etc etc

Any SPECIFIC agency discussion will be deleted. You CAN say ...

"I used "Babies R Us Agency" from Expensive, USA. PM me for details".

"You cant say, I used BRU Agency and they are great"
