Hi there,

I have a friend who has a holiday home in Gambia and has spent a lot of time in the Country. They have recently found that they are unable to have children and are interested in adopting from Gambia. I wonder if you guys have any info on adopting from there or any advice on where we can try to get info from.

Check the US State Dept. website--they will give you info. on feasibility of adoption in any country. I did look into it a bit several years ago. I'd done Peace Corps in Senegal (lived there 2 1/2 years, and traveled throughout W.Africa), and had wanted to adopt from Senegal, Mali, Gambia, Guinea Bissau or Guinea. None of them had feasible adoption programs to the US. We ended up adopting from Ethiopia (which, btw has a very stable, very fast program). If you do find something out, please post it--I'm interested to hear!!

ps--OK, i see you are in Scotland. If your friend is also in the UK, then of course you should look at your own state dept. website, not the U.S. site. Sorry about that-I should have looked more closely!
