Nigeria Adoption

I have been tooling around the internet looking for orphanages in Nigeria and found Heart of Gold (an orphanage in Nigeria). They have some information about adopting from them, have photos of some of the kids and even an adoption process.

Just wondered if anyone had ever adopted from Nigeria? Is it open to Americans? I looked at the State Dept WEbpage and it just says the usual - be careful of agencies and facilitators.

The webpage is at Heart of Gold Children’s Hospice – http://www.hoghospice.org

They are also doing a fund raiser for a little girl who needs facial reconstruction surgery.

Anyway - just wondering if adoption in Nigeria was feasible.

I have no idea. But, I'm going to ask for information on the adoptafrica yahoo list. Surely someone will know something about this organziation and adoptions from Nigeria.

I did some checking and asking around. Best I can tell, Nigeria has a residency requirement (like so many of the African nations). So, I suppose in theory its possible, but its not very probable to accomplish this from the US. That isn't to say its impossible because I've seen individuals accomplish a great deal when determined. But, I suspect this would be a very long, hard road to take and the outcome might not be very certain.
