Liberia Adoption

I wanted to see if there have been any members who have had experience with Liberia Adoptions and their experiences.

I am considering going through Americans for African Adoptions (AFAA). EDITED TO REMOVE AGENCY DISCUSSION

Money is a factor for me because I started the adoption process with another agency for a Colombian adoption, just to find out that the waiting children that I was applying to adopt were also listed with four other agencies and others had applied for the same children.

San Diego, Ca

that's the agency we are pretty sure we're going to use too. I"m excited. We were going to do agency adoption in the states but nothing's happening there, then we were going to do domestic but I"m just scared off by all the bad experiences people have had w/ failed adoptions, so we've thought long and hard and are going to go this route, only have to have the homestudy redone! Where are you at in the process?

We are also looking at using AFAA. The website is not updated, but if you request information, the organization send a current updated packet on a Cd-Rom (PDF format).

Anyone with experiences good or bad would be much obligied.

My husband and I are working directly with an orphanage in Liberia that has 53 children ages 5-14 and we are using an agency just for the homestudy and post-placement. The cost is far lower than anything else we looked at and the children are adorable. If you are interested in more information, just reply and I will send you my email.

I would love to get information on the agency in Liberia you are using. Have you ever heard of Acres of Hope?

There is a great yahoo group - Adopt Liberia - that can help you guys out a lot with the agency decision. We are also adopting from Liberia. I'd be happy to provide information about our experiences and about the info I have gathered regarding Liberian adoption and the facilitators that work there. Feel free to PM me.

Hi Vera - how are you? You just adopted a year ago from Liberia, but independently, right? Are you going to use an agency this time?
