I just found this forum! I was so excited! I felt like the only one out there waiting for my child. We are in the process of adopting twin girls from Sierra Leone. One of the girls contracted Cholera and died about a month after we started the process. We thought that we would be able to get the surviving twin home quickly after that, but now all the issues about travel came up! Needless to say, we are a little anxious! I would love to visit with anyone who is also waiting, or has news of what is going on over there!

Nothing is going on over there...that's the problem.
3 men are on trial for child trafficking. 1 man keeps getting his trial continued. 1 man is awaiting trial now. They are all from different organizations. At least 1 is probably guilty, though probably not for recent violations. The courts are processing adoptions at all. They have said they are going to require all adoptive parents to show up for court dates in Freetown. And, there are rumors that they may require a 6 month residency (basically close the country down without saying so). There's information at the State Dept, but there is nothing new there right now. Most of the SL families online hang out here http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SierraLeoneAdoption/ as we hold each other's hands and pray things get better and soon. |
