Help!!! She is unbearable. Been in detention for assauting me and her sister and for vandalism. (now back home) Seeing a therapist for over 1 year. Slight changes but creating a miserable family life for me, my husband and her biological sister.
What steps are needed to remove her from our home when she turns 18?? My husband recently returned from a yearly mission in Iraq and has Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. He was hurt when his vehicle was shot at. Now he is home and she is sooo disrespectful to him and to me as well. Appreciate any suggestions. |

I don't know the answer to your question, but I bet the people in our Special Needs adoption forum (http://forums.adoption.com/special-needs-adoption/) will be able to help you. Try posting over there, there's several parents of kids with RAD, and they may know the answer you're looking for.

Laws vary by state so how she is removed a 18 will be different as well. I would post on the special needs board-lots of parents of RAd/AD kids there. Also, Welcome to Attachment & Trauma Network* - ATN is a good place to access help and support for the situation you are describing.

I've been the parent to a RAD...who's lived in residential for most of his life. We had him for four yrs. We contacted an attorney about 'what happens when he turns 18'...because we knew there was NO way he could ever return home; yet places he could reside are very limited, indeed. (He continues with NO progress.)
In short, we were told that when he turns 18.....we should 'divorce' him. He continues to be violent and unpredictable to this day. I have taken the liberty of sending a pm to you as well. I wish you well.......I know how horrible this can be. Sincerely, Linny |
