OT: The Shack

Has anyone else read this book? A co-worker was reading it for a book club. She was talking about it every day - what a great book, the messages, etc.

So, I had to get it. What an amazing book!

I usually read mysteries, so I started to see it as a whodunit, it is not!

It is a must read for any parent.

I have been reading this book. I have struggled through it the first time because I began about a week after a failed adoption. It is a wonderful book, great encouragement but a bit overwhelming while trying to deal with you own grief. A friend that had lost her son a couple of months earlier recommended it. I will definitely reread this book. Keep a highlighter close because it has some great suggestions you need to underline or bookmark.

It's a good book. I think its a tough book to read for book club because of the deeper messages throughout. I think a lot of book clubs get stuck on the abduction as the story and dont see the spiritual journey that is the real storyline. I found that talking about it with my bible study group and talking about with a general book club it was like the groups read two different books.

I totally agree. I don't normally read spirtual books, except my Bible.

When I started reading, I tried to make it about the abduction and the mystery to solve the abduction. As soon as he told the couple at the campground that his family called God papa, I started looking at them as the abductors, because of that intimate knowledge.

DUH!! It has nothing to do with the story!

I re-read certain parts several times, trying to get a grasp on it. I will be reading it again. It's funny, I was trying to read the last few pages, but I kept falling asleep. I certainly didn't feel tired, but I couldn't stay awake. I told my co-worker - God was telling me to put it down, I couldn't devote enough to those pages. So, I put it down and read the next day.

My MIL sent it to us. Both DH and I read it and love it. MIL comes to visit in a few weeks and wants it back to reread it. I thought it was a powerful book.
