Hi all.

My wive and I adopting a 6-y-o girl from China, and we want to give her an american name to replace her chinese name. How can we do that, and what effects will it have in her future?

Hi,

The name change can be done as part of the readoption process. The readoption petition can just have an extra section that asks that the child's name be legally changed to whatever you want it to be.

With a child of that age, I hope that you will consider keeping her old name as part of her new name. It can be a second middle name or something like that.

HTH,
Kelly

Smile Thanks Kelly!

I appreciate your reply! Can I ask a silly question? What does HTH stand for? Heart to Heart?

Thanks for your knowledge!

Holly

Talking Congratulations!

I agree, DK, it would be nice if you could this little one's name for possibly a middle name. She'll need all the familiarity she can get in this new country. Congratulations! Have you already received her from China?
