a couple questions...

My partner and I are just about done our home study and are beginning the search. We are a lesbian inter racial couple looking to adopt an infant bi racial or african american baby. Our agency is really hopeful of a quick match. They did mention trying a parent identified adoption because it would be a bit cheaper. We do have many friends who are OB's but I feel like this process seems not that hopeful. Has anyone ever looked themselves for an adoptive mother outside of what the agency is doing? Any thoughts or feedback would be great!

Thanks!

Hey, good to see you!
If we waited for our agency we'd still be waiting today years later! We got our 2 babies with a different adoption professional but the agency did our homestudy and postplacement visits.
I know some people try contacting obs... I have a professional relationship with some of them in my area and I told them I wanted to adopt but I don't think they really thought of me if and when anything came up. I do think there is someone on a.com who adopted a baby after contacting something like 40 obs in her area.
But definitely network and use any option you have because agencies can take a while!

I wish you all the best. Just be careful with some of the agencies. They make all kinds of promises of a quick match and require a hefty signing fee. It happened to friends of mine who signed with an agency in Texas. They were promised that they place same sex couples within one year. After waiting two years they walked away from the agency and their $10,000 signing fee. I hope this is not true for you. I am just wary of agencies that make too many promises. Best of luck

Hi Ladies!
What about embryo adoption? You should check into it. I am single, and paid less than 15,000 for everything. (didn't cover my pregnancy of course) and I adopted 2 embryos and got a beautiful daughter. Someone mentioned an agency fee of 10,000!!!! Yikes. Mine was less than 2,500. As long as one of you can carry than this is a wonderful option! I just found out I can't carry this time around.
