How did you meet your spouse? Was it a long courtship or short?

DH and I met in grad school. He came to this school from 1600 miles away and another country, and I went 90 miles from my home. I knew of him because it was a small school from my first semester. He even came to parties at my house! I wasn't until the semester before I graduated where we ended up at an evaluation retreat together (along with several couples, we were the only two single people and joke that it was a setup!) and we noticed each other. Kinda thrown together y'know? He asked me out a few days later and we were engaged 3 months later and married 10 months and 10 days from our first date. Then he moved me to another country 8 months after we got married. Whirlwind, yes... but only after waiting a lifetime to find him. |

I was an intern at a public defenders office in law school. I was in an extremely dangerous neighborhood and the intern I was replacing said, "make sure you always go out with C, the investigator, he's awesome!"
Well, I had a vision that "C" was like a 70 yo retired cop....until I saw him and saw he was a hot young guy!!! I pursued him relentlessly (as he loves to point out!). We dated for five years until I told him it was time to you know what or get off the pot (how romantic, eh?).. But we just celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary and are going strong!!! |

I was 14, and a freshman in H.S. Dh was 17, and a senior in H.S. We dated all through my years in H.S. I graduated in May, got married in July and had a baby the following June.
We just celebrated our 20th wedding Anniversary. We now have 6 children. |

Well, I met him on what was called the vax at school. It was a kind of an on school internet system. He was talking and flirting with my roommate, who never told him she was engaged. He came to one of our orchestra recitals to meet us and she wouldn't say a word to him. So, I talked to him, and the rest is history!
We were friends for quite awhile before we dated. Once we started dating we were engaged a few months later and married 13 months after starting to date. |

I was a pool attendant at the apartment complex where his brother and sister both worked and lived. He was slightly older than me (he was 27 and I was 21) and pretty introverted - I'd seen him around but never really spoke to him.
His sister had a party one night and I happened to sit down next to him - a commercial came on for "Sleepless in Seattle" and I said "Oh - I want to see that movie" to no one in particular. He said "Would you like to see it?" and I said "With you?" He said yes, I said yes, and the rest is history... |

We met at a club. Something about the way he talked about his kids I just knew he was the one. He moved in a week later, we were engaged 8 weeks after we met, and married a year later...in 2000! What a whirlwind!

We originally met when I was 19 and he was 15 - he was my little brother's best buddy from high school. We dated briefly when I was 26 and he was 22, but there was "no magic" - his words, NOT mine!
On Labor Day the year I was 34 and he was 30, we met up again at my family's annual picnic (he was in town visiting my brother) and the rest, as they say, is history. Apparently the magic took hold that time because we had dinner together that night and saw or talked to each other every single day until we got engaged three months later. Seven months after that, we were married. And less than three years later, we were parents to TWINS! Sometimes it takes a while, but God has a way of bringing soulmates together. I had a failed engagement three years before DH and I got together. I believe God was saving me for DH - and DH for me.

We met at work. I was 21 and in college, he was 17 and a senior in high school. He hounded me like crazy (and failed to mention he wasn't 18). He left flowers on my car, asked me out for lunch every day we worked together, begged my friends for help, etc. But I wasn't interested at all.
My boss finally asked me to take pity on him and go out on one date so he could have a little peace at work, lol. I went and lo and behold, I actually liked the kid. We'd been dating for about three months when he "remembered" to mention he'd just turned 18. After a very long talk about what he'd go through if he ever pulled anything like that again, we kept dating. After five years of dating we got married and three years later here we are. |

In a sports bar in Detroit. I was celebrating my co-worker leaving the firm to go to law school, he was there with co-workers. I saw him sitting at the bar, dark and handsome, and told the waitress to send him the drink of his choice. I had NEVER bought a strange man drinks, I had no intentions other than to acknowledge his good looks. We ended up talking that night, ending our other relationships within months and getting married 2 years later. He's 10 years younger than I am also. I had dated much after my divorce and was thinking that I didn't want to marry again. Here i am 11 years later, 4 more children. My new motto? NEVER SAY NEVER!!!!!

BugnBearsMommy....... I wasn't going to reply to this thread, then I saw yours and felt better, LOL
Sophomore year of college I moved off campus. I had taken my apt. sight unseen and when I went to pick up the keys, I had a choice of an apt. "next to a really sweet elderly man" or next to a "really hot young guy" - no brainer there! The next day I melted tupperware in my dishwasher and set off the smoke alarms and guess who came to save the day (in a towel, I might add ). We went out that night and he never left. We got engaged 2 years later and married a year after that. It's been 15 years now and the fire still burns ![]()

Billy's Mommy-
Believe me...I know! I have had several funny looks and off hand comments when I have told people about how we met and how fast things progressed. You know though...I felt something the minute we touched...I just KNEW this was the ONE! Some people go their whole lives and never experience such a thing. I was not about to let it get away.
