I always love it when people who are directly involved on a professional level get involved and post here!!!!!
I have been running accross some miss information being reported about Ohio here and there and I am over here In Orgeon.... Melinda--Does Ohio offer the College subsidy? Texas has a great program but here in Oregon the only info is 'there might be some assistance for a student age 18-21' Anyway it is so great to have an Adoption Assistance person on this site!

I am at home right now but I think there is a program that has went into effect this year about if your child was in foster care there is assistance. I will get the rule on this and post tomorrow.
thanks and have a nice evening. Melinda

Hi Everyone,
My husband and I are from Pa. We have recently decided to adopt a sibling group of 4. Our children are both grown and gone. I am hoping for subsidy because I want to quit working to be here in the morning to get them breakfast, and in the afternoon to help them with school work before dinner. Anyone know about the state of Pa.'s subsidy laws? Cheryl |

question re SSI
No answers here but another question re subsidies... if a child is receiving SSI does that mean they can't receive adoption subsidy? And if so, is it likely the SSI is a smaller amount than the subsidy would be? I know these are general questions, just wondering if anyone has experience with a child being on SSI.
Thanks! |

If you receive adoption subsidy you can also receive SSI but the amount you are eligible to receive is lower based on the amount of subsidy you receive. That is in the state of Ohio.

Our little one has received SSI since Feb. '03, and we adopted him in Dec. '03. We negotiated his AAP subsidy amount in April '04, and he started receiving subsidy in May. We had two months of overlap when we received the full amount for both of them, but starting this month, his SSI amount will be reduced by the amount of his AAP.
ADDED: Forgot to say this is in Kansas, but since SSI is a federal program, I think it would be the same in every state. Even though the AAP is a federal Title IV-E funded program, it is administered by the state of residence, so there may be subtle differences from state to state. I don't know much. I do know I have a friend here in Washington state who has 2 boys, 9 yrs. Adhd & bipolar and she gets $910 a month for each boy (she was fostering, now adopted). Wow! Well, that's what I thought anyhow. My bio child is very involved compared to them.
I also had a friend in California who had a little girl she got $1200 a month for.....down syndrome. Some have to fight for a decent subsidy, I think some are just happy to have the kids off their caseloads. |

subsidy internet site
In December 2003, we adopted 2 siblings from Missouri and our subsidy is 675.00 a month for each child due to the fact that they were considered behavior placements during the 2 years that we were their foster parents. They also have their medicaid insurance, respite, and daycare expenses paid. Medicaid continues to pay for their weekly counsling sessions that will probaly continue for years. Foster parenting is a great way to get to know a child before adoption. Knowing the problems these children have, I am glad I had the chance to love them before I had to decide whether to adopt them or not. I now know in my heart, I will stand by them, support them, and love them forever. I feel all foster adopted children should receive all the financial help that they can get. If you don't need it to raise them, it can always be put in their savings so maybe the rest of their lives will be alot smoother. My children had 8 hotline calls before they were removed so at the risk of sounding bitter, I think subsidy is the least the state can do for them. The internet site that I found to be helpful is http://www.nacac.org/subsidy_stateprofiles.html Please don't depend on the adoption specialist to know all the answers. Each adoption is different and the more research you do on your own the better off you are. Thank God for the children that he will bring into your life.
There are alot of great kids just waiting for a forever family and with the benefit of the adoption subsidy it makes it alot easier to be able to adopt them. I would not trade my kids for the world![]()
