How to get regional center rate for FS
My toddler FS is a regional center client. He was premature and drug exposed (and his birthmom is a client). He is deemed high risk on his ISFP, however is doing excellent with no problems. So, how can he get a higher foster care rate? Does the child JUST have to be a regional center client? Do I call our adoption worker or the county worker who handles payments? What would I need from his regional center worker? We are going to be his adoptive placement soon so I would rather get this taken care of now before we negotiate our AAP. Thanks!

I'm in NY and for each successive higher rate, the child has to be in need of constant supervision. Google Fair claim hearing and your state and see what happens. Don't wait; I did and it was too late. Good luck!

When our son who was a regional center client and a foster child, his payment was a little higher than the reg FC rate. I had to go thru his foster care worker.
When our second regional center qualified child was a foster child, his rate was a little higher. It stayed the same when we adopted him. BUT, when he turned three he was no longer eligible for regional center so they dropped the rate. Getting a child to qualify for regional center after the age of three can be very difficult. Up until the age of three the qualifications are not as strict. I would speak with his regional center worker to see if they think that he will continue to remain a regional center client. If he will, I would get something from them to give to the adoption worker. Even if he does not qualify for the regional center, he may qualify for a higher special needs rate based on his medical conditions. You would need to go thru the SW for that. Good Luck, Happy123 |

Thanks Happy123,
I really don't think he will qualify after 3. At least not unless something else pops up later on. We are also moving out of state this summer. Will that effect the rate? Thanks! |

Rates are to stay the same no matter where you live. According to our adoption worker, we could move anywhere and the rate would stay the same. I would recommend getting direct deposit before you move...it is much safer then having the check mailed out of state IMO.
