Unhappy trying to adopt in texas

Hi Everyone,

The child we are wanting to adopt is a special needs child that was in the foster care system for a very short time because we fought very hard to get her out of it. The Judge granted us permanent conservatorship. But what we were not told by cps was that as soon as we excepted conservatorship we automaticly lost our chances of recieving adoption subsidies. Because of her severe physical needs we cannot afford for her to loose medicaid. Which will happen without the subsidies. Does anyone know of some kind of loop hole. If we had only known about this we would have done things differently.

I would check with the state medical/ financial department. In my state you can have your child screened for waiver services that will assist in covering medical/developmental needs. The child can also be eligible for our co-pay medical - you have to pay a monthly premium as well but that would still be cheaper than losing all medical benefits. you could also try appealing the decision to the state level regarding the loss of medical.

Another option - would she be eligible for social security benefits due to her disability? Usually medical comes with the case benefit.

Curious: why conservatorship as opposed to fost/adopt?
