hi,we just finalized adoption of our fson last month.our adoption sw said we would get subsidy starting day after we finalize.i know subsidy is for current month.well august we got no check,and finally talked to someone and they said they recieved our paperwork to late,payments had already been sent out for august.and that we wont get anything from date of finalization ,till end of july.and in sept we should recieve payment for august and september.does this sound right?we are in nc

I am sure you understand that it is different in every state but I can tell you what I have been told and am experiencing here in GA.

We signed our placement papers switching our kids from foster to adoption on June 6th. We received our per diem through June 5th and the AA started on June 6th. It has taken them this long to process the AA and it is coming from a different place than the per diem did. It is retroactive and we are expecting a check soon that is to cover June, July, and August. From that point forward the AA is to be received in the begining of the month for that month instead of for the previous month.

We are in CA and ours started the day after adoption was finalized. In fact, we finalized mid-month, and they pro-rated it. Our finalization date was 5/25 and shortly after June 1 we got a check for the week or so we had been at the new rate. It came from the county, but from a different department than the foster money. I remember thinking how on top of it they were.
I know, it's difficult to discuss money where adoption is concerned. But they could be making this mistake with lots of parents. You might want to push the issue.

We are in Texas and our subsidy started as soon as the paperwork was turned in and it was approved. We were not getting any funding for foster care because we were a kinship placement.

We still haven't gotten the check for the one time fee. I finally got in touch with someone who told me that they needed some forms that the social worker usually sent when the adoption was final. That was 3 months ago and we are still waiting.

Ours started on the day of placement, but it took them a couple of months to get all of the paper work finished and to get us in their system. And yes you get for past days/months all in one lump sum, then the following month things should be right.
