Did you hire an attorney?

Just wondering what the advantages of hiring an attorney are. We have spoken with the adoption caseworker and she told us that the subsidy we'll get is $250 per child...but that we do NOT get daycare reimbursement. I live in Ohio.

For some reason, when we started this process, I thought we got reimbursed for daycare so now we are going to have a difficult time paying for childcare.. We are adopting two siblings, ages 7 and 8 and they are Title IV-E eligible.

Should we hire an attorney to try and get a higher subsidy since we don't get daycare? Had I known about the daycare issue going into this, we would have only looked for one child. However, I'm SO GLAD we didn't know, because we wouldn't have our B&Z.

TIA

In our state (Oklahoma) you DO NOT get day care paid either. The subsidy is set by the State so getting a lawyer wouldn't do anything, at least not here. Almost 90% of our subsidy goes for day care. We also didn't know that wouldn't be covered as medical/dental/counseling is covered. We too are glad we didn't know as we took in a sibling group of 3!

Try this website for info on specific to OH issues. I would also contact either your agency (someone MAY know about subsides) or contact the state subsidy office (# is in link).

The $250 is the STATE adoption subsidy, but if your kidsa are Title eligible I am sure it is more.
