Need input of your experiences obtaining subsidy

We found out last weekend that our son, now age 10, Down Syndrome, adopted at age 2 mos qualified for adoption subsidy when we adopted him! We have been printing info from the internet on the laws regarding adoption subsidies and have an appointment with our attorney tomorrow morning to persue this. I would like to hear from anyone that persued and obtained an adoption subsidy after the adoption was finalized. We were told that we needed to make sure we made enough money to take care of him or we couldn't have him. And if we applied for "a monthly check" we would not be able to keep him.!!!!! Well we were naive then. Not now. Please email me here or at cherylgrogan@hotmail.com with your experience. Oh, he was adopted from another state. Four agencies were involved in placing him with us.
