Question Subsidy for Autistic Child

Does anyone out there have experience with negotiating an adoption subsidy for an autistic child? We have been fostering him for six months now and it is proving to be quite expensive. What sort of things should we ask to have covered in the subsidy? Are there limits to what can and cannot be covered for him? We have excellent medical coverage, but I am always hearing how expensive it can be to provide for the special needs of autistic children. Thanks, Keith

Go to nacac.org, your state profile, and print it out. Ask for everything your child is entitled to, then negotiate down to what you really need/want.

each state is different

if the child is high needs you should get the states highest rate which should be what you are getting for foster care rate. Some people are able to get camp and child care until the child's 18th or 21st birthday.

If you want or have him in any special programs that helps him with his disorder (which could be sensory intergration therapy, art or music therapy, etc...) then that could be covered in some states (usually OT, PT and speech therapy can be cover through medicaid)

assitive technology is another thing I have heard of people getting.
