Mother's Day

I had written a poem at age 16 about being adopted in a letter format to the mother I had never known. Unfortunately when I finally found her at 25 I had misplaced the poem. We through together plans to meet in person within 2 weeks of finding each other online. It ended up being on Mother's Day so I wrote this for her just in case I was comfortable enough to give it to her. The whole affair was like a homecoming complete with my siblings, and a banner at the train station. When all the chaos and staring at each other calmed down I slipped her the poem.
She began to cry, which made me cry, but both us not being public criers we quickly got ourselves together before the others caught us.
So there is the back story and here is the poem:

You never got to hold me
though you gave me life
And I thank you for your courage
for carrying me through your strife

I always wondered where you were
and how I came to be
Spending hours by the mirror
wondering if you looked like me

I often wrote you letters
not knowing what to say
But continuing to hope
to send them to you someday

I searched forever praying
that this would come to be
That I could finally meet you
and a familiar face I’d see

Although I never new knew you
you were always in my heart
Walking in my dreams at night
while time kept us apart

And now I find it ironic
this date of our plan;
The thing I’ve never had with you
on Mother’s Day I can.

Wow, that was really a beautiful poem. As a birthmother, the sentiments you expressed especially touched me. I'm sure your birthmom was absolutely thrilled to receive this and will treasure it forever. Thank for sharing it.
