Heart The poem my adoptive mom gave me

Not flesh of my flesh,
Nor bone of my bone,
But nevertheless still my own.
Never forget for a single minute
You weren't born under my heart
But in it.

That's the first time I've seen or heard anyone else with that poem. My adoptive mom had that hiding in her dresser drawer. She never gave it to me; I found it. Unfortunately, my adoptive mom was not open with me about the experience. She did not want to talk about it at all. That is awesome that your adoptive mom gave that to you. What a gift!! The copy I found is just a little bit different: Not flesh of my flesh; nor bone of my bone. But still, miraculously. . . my own. Never forget for a single minute - you didn't grow under my heart, but in it. Happy Holidays. Lynne

My adoptive mother had this poem printed and framed as a birthday gift for me. One thing I was blessed with is parents who were very open about my adoption. I was told about my adoption starting before I could understand what it was. I was also told to tell any one who put me down about being adopted, "My parents chose me, they didn't have to take me."

What great adoptive parents you have (had). If everyone's would have been like that, there would be alot fewer of us wondering who we are. You were very lucky. Lynne

I heard that poem for the first time when I was 13 and watching "facts of life". I think Natalie was adopted and had just found out and Mrs. Garret quoted that or something. I was so shocked and amazed by it I started crying. I often use it in place of a monologue at auditions, because the truth is so apparent. Its amazing.
