Here's a poem I wrote for our daughter's birthmom.... I'm no poet, but she's inspired me to give it a shot:

When I Look Into My Daughter’s Eyes

When I look into my daughter’s eyes,
It’s your reflection I see,
From the first moment when we met
Something clicked inside of me.

At that time I could not have dreamt,
I’d love you so much, mind, body and soul,
Not only are you my daughter’s first Mom,
You are the one who made me whole.

The love inside you radiated
From you, to her, to me,
You are so much more than the woman who made her,
A better friend, you could not be.

So as much as I am grateful for her,
I am grateful for you, too,
She’s filled my heart with so much love,
A boundless link from me to you.

I promise that I’ll love her always,
Just the way I know you do,
To her, I give everything that I am,
Every part of me that’s true.

I’ll teach her how to ride a bike,
And how to put on her shoes,
I’ll say with her, her evening prayers,
In them, we will always include you.

But most of all I’ll be sure she knows,
From her first family, how much she is loved,
She’ll see His hand in this perfect match,
A precious gift from God, in heaven above.

She’ll know the sacrifice you made,
So that she would never be without,
She’ll know for you to surrender her to us on that day,
Is just what love is all about.

When I look into my daughter’s eyes,
It’s your reflection that I see,
The image is burned in my heart,
May it always stay with me.
