She gave to me the gift of life
and turned and walked away. I saw the tears roll down her face yet did not know the words to say. I looked at you, so sweet, so small my heart was filled with love I kiss your hands, your face, your lips my joy was over flowing.... I watch her turn and walk away she shuffles and she walks real slow. I glanced again, at you my babe my tears fall gently, I brush them away. I take my eye's from your sweet face and watch your birthmom go. My heart breaks in so many pieces someday my child, you'll know. The courage it took to place you did not mean she did not care. It shattered her heart to tiny pieces to leave her baby here. I wipe the tears from my face and look up into the sky I question God with all my heart and hope her pain will die. I hope that when the cries wake her at night and the dreams never let her rest that somewhere deep inside of her she'll know she's done her best. She gave you life, she gave you a home she gave you what she knew she couldn't. I reach out for her, to ease her pain even though others tell me I shouldn't. I shouldn't care? I shouldn't help? I shouldn't open my house? What are those strangers thinking I can't be such a louse. I took you home and made you mine I reached out for your birthmom, so that things will be fine. I remember her strength, her love, her sorrow... I'll promise I'll make sure, she's in your tomorrow. We have no scripts, no lines, no plays this is real life, it's hard, it stays. I love you child with all my heart and your birthmom loves you, right from the start. I want you, my child, to always know and never question why that you were made with total love and with love, she let you fly! September 17, 2003
