Why are there so many adoptive parents that promise to be totally open or semi-open to the birthparents then change their minds after the adoption is finalized?
There are numerous stories where this has occured, imparticularly there is a story from a birthfather named Seth under Share Your Story(AdoptiveFather's Stories and Stories from Birthfather's).
I do understand that not all adoptive parents do this, but I still cannot understand why some would do this.

We have a semi-open adoption (pix & letters), and I faithfully send these items to the birthmother as promised. However, this was a verbal arrangement -- nothing in writing in the adoption papers. Maybe they don't feel legally bound?? I cannot imagine showing so little regard for the birthparents after all of the joy that the birthparents gave to their family.
