Info for Bio DD on Adoption
Greetings:
I posted an another forum and was refered here. We are looking at foster/adopt an older child. We are in the early stages, however, I want to prepare my dd who is 9. She of course, sees the Disney version of adoption. A thankful and happy Hollywood playmate! How can I best prepare her for the not so Hollywood aspects of a new sibling? We have had conversations about some of the issues that children in the system have had but do any of you have ideas/input/books/references that we could use. Thanks so much, mommamia1 |

I apologize I cannot think of anything specific yet as for reading to your DD. I do know that we talked alot to our son. We treated it like a pregnancy except it may be shorter or longer depending on the adoption.
We were very up front with our son who was 4 at the time we started the adoption process. He is now 7 and our adopted son is 3. Our wait was very short and so I think the transition for us all was a little off....But I think anyone will say no matter bio or adopted when you go from one to two you will always be off alittle until all settle down and the oldest realizes they are still important along with the new brother or sister. I know there are a few books out there and I will keep trying to remember what the titles are...until then keep us posted how things progress for you.
