Tuberculosis

Hello, I'm hoping someone might know the answer to this. My husband and I are having our homestudy updated. We both had to have another TB test done. Mine was negative, no problems.

My husband's was positive. They also did a chest x-ray which they said looked fine. He is going to have sputum tests done, but not until next week. His doctor thinks it may be the non-contagious type of TB, where he can take meds and then be fine. He hasn't had any symptoms of TB.

We called our agency and our social worker wasn't sure how it would affect our homestudy. He said he'd have to check with someone else and let us know.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Did it cause your homestudy to be denied? We were first approved back in October 2000 for a domestic adoption...still waiting...was hoping the homestudy update would go smoothly but we've hit a snag. At least I hope that's all it is. I hope our dreams of becoming parents aren't gone.

Valerie

TB

I worked with refugees in the US, and I peronally know two of them that tested positive AFTER they got here, and had to have round of meds. (One of them is my father in law now.) I can't say whether it will affect your home study, but I sure can say it shouldn't. Nowadays, it's not unlike other health problems that just need to be taken care of. Again, I'm not expert or health professional, just speaking from personal experience.

Sincerely,
