I am adopting my stepdaughter in the city of St. Louis and my lawyer informed me we have to have a homestudy. This scares me. What do they entail? Are they very expensive? I am confused as to why I have to prove myself as a parent when I have been raising a daughter she(birthmom) hasn't seen in seven years. I would appreciate any advice anyone has.

home study
i am a foster parent in st. louis, my home study was free. i am not sure about your situation, but my home study was pretty painless. they looked to see that i had a fire extinguisher, a ventalated bathroom and appropriate space for a foster child/ren. i made sure the place was clean (as you would if anyone was coming to your house) but nothing special. you might call the foster and adoption care coalition (340-7722) and ask how you go about arranging a home study in relation to your situation. good luck!
