First, he is bipolar, but on medication and regularly sees a dr.
Second, he has two past drinking offenses on his record. He does not drink anymore and is a wonderful person who just happened to make a couple of bad mistakes. How could this affect our chances of adoption?

Half the world is on one form or another of antidepressants. But I am not a social worker. My gut tells me that if you are open and honest with the Social Worker that is doing your home study with appropriate statments from said Psych and Medical doctors that should help a lot. Also, you will need to get a statement from the Sheriffs office or your local police about a criminal back ground. For all that I have read recently (which is oodles, LOL) openeness and honesty with the social worker will make things go smoother. I hope there is a social worker out there in Message Board Black Hole that perhaps could shed some light on the situation. Good luck to you both. I will say a prayer.

From a birthparent point of view, I would NEVER give my baby to someone who has a diagnosed mental illness (currently being treated or not) and a criminal record involving drunkenness.
